KBUT Top radio station
Broadcasting since 1986, KBUT serves the Gunnison Valley through diverse on-air programs, volunteer opportunities open to all community members, and ongoing support for the area’s nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. Community radio is a significant facilitator of democratic ideals and civic participation and is an invaluable community resource, particularly for a rural and remote area such as Gunnison County. 1983 A group working for Earth Station Radio began grant writing, applying for FCC licensing and fundraising to launch a community-based public radio station.
1986 KBUT 90.3 FM came on the air on December 20.
1993 The station began broadcasting NPR’s “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered”.
1996 KBUT started broadcasting in Gunnison and at Jack’s Cabin.
1999 KBUT signed on from its current studios at 508 Maroon Avenue.
2004 KBUT started live streaming on the Internet.
2013 KBUT’s Power Up Campaign completed and significantly increased its signal at 88.7 FM in Gunnison and 90.3 FM in Crested Butte.
2015 KBUT’s News Department is formed and now serves the community with important breaking news and information from our community and region
